Resilience is the ability to bounce back from an external event or stress. Along with getting ready to make it through a disaster, we recommend that you and your neighbors consider these further steps toward resilience. The information here can help you in two ways:
- After the initial response to a disaster, which could take days or weeks, the community will go through a recovery process. Activities like growing and preserving food, bicycling, and sealing leaks in your home insulation can be extremely useful in the recovery phase.
- Natural disasters are not the only kind of stresses we may face. We live in uncertain times, and we may experience economic instability, extreme weather or energy shocks in coming months or years. The kinds of activities mentioned above will provide extra security and add to your confidence about your future.
We will add more resources to this part of PREP in the future and welcome your suggestions to [email protected].
